Data, Reporting & Sector Information
BYERA supports transparency and evidence-based regulation by collecting, maintaining, and (where applicable) publishing electricity sector information for Bayelsa State. Under the Electricity Law, 2025, BYERA is empowered to collect and record information across the electricity value chain, publish data and forecasts on demand and use of electricity, and require licensees to collect and publish specified data.
What this service covers in practice
1) Sector data collection and recordkeeping
BYERA collects and records information relating to electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and utilisation within the State. This creates reliable evidence base for regulation and market oversight.
2) Demand and usage forecasts
BYERA can collect and publish data and forecasts on demand for, and use of, electricity in the State. These forecasts support planning, infrastructure prioritisation, and long-term sector development.
3) Licensee reporting requirements
A key part of the data service is that BYERA may require licensees to collect and publish data in prescribed formats. This helps standardise reporting, improve accountability, and make market performance easier to measure.
4) Transparency and public information
Where appropriate, BYERA publishes sector information to support transparency helping consumers, investors, and stakeholders understand market performance and key trends (e.g., reliability, service delivery, and demand patterns).
5) Better regulation and better decisions
Data and reporting strengthen BYERA’s ability to set standards, monitor performance, support tariff reviews, and target enforcement, because decisions are grounded in verified evidence rather than assumptions.
